Villagers in Steynton, Milford Haven, turned out in force on Saturday 7th August to mark the official opening of their new Church and Community Hall. The Pembrokeshire Brass Band played a fanfare, and the ceremony was marked by the cutting of a home-made celebration cake.
The project, which has taken two years to complete and cost almost £170,000, has completely renovated the building, incorporating a new kitchen, disabled toilets and easy access for all throughout. And local organisations have been quick to take advantage of the facilities, including the W.I., Mothers' Union, PAVS, Luncheon Club, Plant Dewi, and local art, craft and social societies.
Pembrokeshire College will also be running courses in computing and exercise classes as well as line dancing sessions.
The cost of the project was met from a variety of grants and donations, including the Welsh Assembly Government Community Facilities And Activities Programme (CFAP), the Landfill Communities Fund (SITA), Welsh Church Fund Pembrokeshire, Pembrokeshire Association for Voluntary Service (PAVS), Pantyfedwen Trust, Beatrice Laing Trust, the Jane Hodge Foundation and the J.H. Burn Charity Trust. Local community fundraising and donations accounted for over £30,000 of the cost.
The work was carried out by L. Greggain & Co. Ltd., a family building firm from Neyland.
