Lenten Cross

Lent and Easter

Lenten Cross
The lenten cross was made from the trunk of the 2007 Christmas tree. It reminds us that Jesus’ birth as “Emmanuel - God with us” is very much bound up with the man He became and His death on the cross. Each week during Lent symbols were placed at the foot of the cross,( a chalice, a bag of coins, a purple robe, a whip, bread and wine, nails and a hammer) and the ministry team’s addresses focussed on the significance of these symbols to teach about the experiences of Jesus before his death.
On Easter day the Lenten Cross was transformed to a Resurrection Cross. Members of the congregation brought flowers to Church and placed them on the Cross on their way to receive the Easter Communion.
