Pilgrimage 2008

The trip north was punctuated by food stops and a very entertaining performance by “Eric” of Jodrell bank as he explained, with the aid of a simulation, what would be involved in a trip to Mars. Outside the theatre he took great joy in explaining how the huge dish radio telescope worked - his talk set the scene for a “STAR” weekend. The Clifton Park Hotel in Lytham Saint Annes provided excellent food and service and was a good base for exploring the local area including  Lytham, Blackpool and Fleetwood, and allowed easy access to the town itself with its’ pier and miles of sand.

The view from the end of the pier - the tide went out for miles!!

Further afield the southern lake district provided opportunities for a visit to Cartmel Priory (and village shop to stock up on sticky toffee pudding), a steam railway excursion from Haverthwaite to Lakeside on Lake Windermere, and a boat trip across Lake Windermere to Bowness.

The Clifton Park Hotel also provided “star”  entertainment with local song and dance artiste Amanda.

Liverpool Anglican Cathedral was visited for Eucharist at the start of the journey back home. The service was led by Canon Anthony Hawley and Deacon Tim Hayward with an address by Bishop Gordon Mursell.
