A token of recognition for the Parish and Gaynor
On 24th of January Bishop Wyn appointed Gaynor to be associate Warden of Readers for the Diocese of St Davids. Many people are involved in discerning whether a person has a call from God to be a Reader: the candidate, the congregation, the PCC, the Vicar, the Warden of Readers, the vocations advisor, and the Bishop. Gaynor will be responsible for the selection and training of readers; for the encouragement of readers in their pastoral and liturgical ministries; and for their continuing education and training. Readers have to complete a two year course and are trained alongside those training for the ordained ministry. Elements include academic modules, ministerial reflection, placements, and residential weekends. On successful completion of the training, Anglican readers are licensed by the bishop to the diocese at large. The role of licensed Readers and can involve: • Conducting Mattins, Evensong, and Compline • Publishing banns of marriage • Preaching, and teaching • Assisting in pastoral care • Conducting funerals (this requires additional training and a special license from the Bishop) • Distributing (though not celebrating) Holy Communion. We wish Gaynor well as she takes on this large and important task.
